Love that wallpaper, I don't have the link for it but I can re upload if anyone wants it

This is fedora 15 beta (almost final) using gnome 3 fallback, Atolm-gtk3 theme with Hope metacity

Nevermind the time and date in the screen, it looks exactly the same now

I'm pretty sure you can disable gnome-panel just like in Gnome 2, using only the dock (that's how I tend to use AWN these days since its system tray is pretty good, now). I love how just reversing things makes it look kinda' fresh. XD I think the panel blends in really well with that wallpaper and make it a bit less of an eyesore.

I have one box that just hates everything to do with compositing, and I've decided to use Xfce4 with effects on that, since it has a lot more configuration utilities than Gnome 3. I mean, if you don't love the defaults, that's probably the only real problem Gnome 3 has, even considering the new direction. I mean, that default Gnome icon theme doesn't exactly make everyone drool. I think it's the color of folder icons more than anything that makes it look so... eugh.

Either way, I think things will get easier over the new year or so. I think they handled this transition far better than anyone could have expected, already.

yeah i know you can disable the panel but I prefer to have it for the menu and clock mostly, I don't really care for them in the dock, the dock is for launchers only typically

Yeah- in Xfce4 I either right-click the desktop for a menu or just use Synapse. I can see why having something just as a launcher/taskbar is appealing- it can be less visually distracting that way.

Haha, we just have so many good applications to choose from. I'm so picky. XD

plus i've been trained to have the menu in the taskbar lol. I always forget to go to the dock for that.

Yeah, menus are over-rated, lol. I love the menus in Linux, since they're much nicer than those in OS X or Windows, being so clearly categorized and all, but... I mean, if I had to go through a drop-down in Google to find the category of what I wanted every time, I'd be pretty frustrated, even if it helped me to narrow things down a bit and find similar results to what I wanted. I'm glad we can use both ways.

It's honestly kind of silly- until I used KDE I thought using menus was just awesome since they were so logical in Linux. @_@ I guess being prone to trying different things can really change your perspective. I still think menus are essential for new users or for when you just don't know exactly what you want, yet. That's why I'm glad you can search for what a program does as well as it's name.

I just love how easy they are to manage and edit (well kde and gnome anyway, others aren't bad just not as easy) so if i want say idk gimp in the accessories then all i have to do is move is. Every so often I ditch menus all together and use only alt+f2 for like a couple days at a time lol, helps me remember some of the names of different programs since im still kinda new to linux (overall considering) Oh and an early happy birthday to you :D

Yeah, it's funny how much easier it is for younger people to catch onto Linux. Probably because they don't already have all this Windows junk floating in their head getting in the way. XD Lol, I sound like an old man, sometimes.

Exactly, its like learning a second language, if you teach them young its easier since they haven't been over saturated with the primary language
